Browsing my backlog of drafts I found this half-started post, and figured I’d toss it out there. Who wants some shrine porn?
A photo of Freo’s shrine in my former home. To date the only shrine I have erected expressly for any deity.
It has actually been taken down and placed in storage due to an unfortunate change in my living situation, where I do not have the space for even such a small end-table or shrine. Eventually my goal is to obtain a handful of amber shards to put as a permanent offering in one of the bowls, utilize the other for temporary offerings, and to use the glass for liquid offerings. Not pictured on the shrine itself is a necklace which I have recently obtained that will also be given to her:
The necklace was made by Sarduriur, who does some great work.
Before you ask, no, this shrine isn’t intended for pro-active use. It’s in fulfillment of an obligation. Quite simply, I promised to keep one for her as part of an obligation in exchange for a personal request. And I can assure you it is not what you think. I am eager to get the shrine back up and in finished condition but, as of right now, the necklace is the ‘portable’ version of the shrine. I kind of consider myself the “Martha Stewart” of shrines, as I like mine to be scantly accoutered and as aesthetically pleasing as I can find. Cluttered ones make me wild. This is definitely a work in progress!
Thanks for reading.
Gorgeous boar necklace (and statue!) Freya does like Her bling. 🙂
Off topic: I saw in a convo on Sannion’s wall (regarding Sam Webster) that you deal a lot with Reddit. I don’t know much about Reddit, but it appears to be the current forum for Heathen discussion because I get pingbacks from it and Tumblr every so often. I’m feeling the need (though not at all the *want*) to go out and see what the larger Heathen world is saying at the moment. Do you have any suggestions on where might be a good place for me to start digging into Reddit?
I’m one of the senior mods of the Pagan subreddit (/r/pagan), and a frequent poster at /r/asatru which, despite the name, caters to a pan-Heathen perspective.
The Asatru subreddit is…well, it can be a bit cutthroat. We have a lot of heavy recons that like to peddle typical anti-woo, anti-godspouse, anti-godphone kind of discussion in favor of more empirical things. It also runs the trend of Ancestors>Wights>Gods in worship and people who ask about god focusing can run in to some criticisms. It can be harshly critical, but is entirely able to be dealt with.
I haven’t been kicked out yet, so that says something!
Great, thanks for the info! Now I just need to figure out how to get onto Reddit. 🙂 As for strict Recons, I haven’t dealt with them too much in the last ten years, but before then I was leaning pretty strict recon myself. It’ll be interesting to see what they’re up to now.
If you’ve seen Ale Glad’s blog (asatrublog.com), he is one of their mods. That might help!
